*Argentina’s economy ministry has announced that the country registered a financial deficit of Ar$1.02tn (US$691.32m) in June, resulting from a primary deficit of Ar$696.84bn and net public debt interest payments of Ar$328.05bn. This stood in contrast
with May, when the country registered a financial surplus of Ar$478.61bn and a primary surplus of Ar$1.92tn. The economy ministry attributed the deficits to lower income resulting from deferred payment of income tax, and greater costs caused by the payment of a bonus to retirees and pensioners. It said, however, that across the first six months of 2026 the country registered a financial surplus of 0.1% of GDP and a primary surplus of 0.6% of GDP,
“reaffirming the fiscal anchor in the government’s programme”.
