*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures for its economic activity index (IBC-Br), showing a slight monthly increase of 0.1% in May. Meanwhile, in year-on-year terms, activity in May was up 0.8% compared to the same month last year, and the accumulated activity in the 12 months through May 2026 was up 1.4% on the preceding 12-month period. Regarding economic sectors, agriculture posted a monthly decline of 1.0% in May this year, while industry was up 0.4% and services increased by 0.1%. In year-on-year and annual terms, however, the agricultural sector was still the main driver of economic activity, with a 2.0% increase compared to May 2025, while the accumulated activity for the sector in the 12 months through May was up 2.5%. The industrial sector saw the lowest yearly rise, with a 0.3% increase compared to the same month last year, as well as a 0.5% increase in the 12 months through May this year. The services sector registered a 1.0% year-on-year increase and a 1.8% rise in accumulated activity over the preceding 12 months.
