In brief: Brazil’s Vale posts increase in iron ore production

*Brazilian mining company Vale has released its production results for the second quarter of this year, showing a total of 84.26m tonnes (t) of iron ore produced. This marks an increase of 0.8% compared to Q1 this year and a 20.9% rise compared to Q2 2025. In the first half of 2026, Vale’s iron ore production totalled 153.93m t, up 1.8% on the first half of 2025. However, another major product, iron pellets, posted quarterly and annual declines. Vale’s iron pellet production in Q2 this year totalled 7.30m t, down 7.0% on the previous quarter and down 10.6% on the same quarter in 2025. Regarding Vale’s other major products, copper production totalled 98,400 t in Q2, up 6.3% in quarterly terms but down 3.8% year-on-year. Meanwhile, nickel production totalled 42,000 t, up 4.2% compared to Q1 but down 14.8% compared to Q2 last year.
