MEXICO: Sheinbaum speaks out as El Mayo receives life sentence
President Claudia Sheinbaum claimed this week that it was “obvious” that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was involved in the arrest of the drug kingpin Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, head of the Cártel de Sinaloa, who was handed down a life sentence in a US federal court on 20 July. By pleading guilty to charges of a racketeering conspiracy and running a criminal enterprise, Zambada avoided the death penalty but was given a life sentence.
