*The International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s managing director,
Kristalina Georgieva, has paid a visit to Uruguay during which she met President
Yamandú Orsi, the president of Uruguay’s central bank (BCU)
Guillermo Tolosa, and Economy Minister
Gabriel Oddone. According to a press release by Uruguay’s presidency, during the meetings, authorities highlighted Uruguay’s trajectory in the area of
“macroeconomic stability, institutional strength, and continuity of public policies”, as well as outlining “
improvements to the fiscal rule, objectives established to reduce the deficit and sustainable management of public debt”, among other things. Georgieva, whose visit is the first by an IMF managing director since 2011, also participated in a press conference organised by Tolosa where she praised Uruguay’s stability, calling it a “
huge advertisement for the country”. At the same event however, she went on to say that “
