In brief: Unemployment falls year-on-year in Colombia

*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has announced that the unemployment rate stood at 8.0% in June. This was unchanged from May and down from 8.6% in June 2025. The underemployment rate in June 2026 was 7.1%, down from 7.7% a year earlier and from 7.3% the previous month. Unemployment remained higher among women, at 9.9%, than men, at 6.6%. The cities with the highest unemployment rates were Quibdó (Chocó department, 23.3%), Cartagena (Bolívar, 13.2%), and Ibagué (Tolima, 12.8%).
