ECUADOR: Lawyer of Guayaquil mayor criticises prison sentence
On 4 August the lawyer of Aquiles Álvarez, the imprisoned mayor of Ecuador’s largest city Guayaquil, claimed that Álvarez had been the victim of institutional harassment after he was sentenced the previous day to three years in prison for tampering with an electronic ankle tag.
