Responding to security threats to the Panama Canal

Panama’s special forces participated in a naval operation alongside peers from Argentina, Peru, and the US on 7 August simulating an attack on a ship seized by terrorists targeting the Panama Canal. Against the backdrop of these exercises, the government led by President José Raúl Mulino approved a new security protocol and announced the creation of a new joint command to safeguard the security of the Panama Canal.
