In brief: Brazil’s retail sales rise in June

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the country’s retail sales in June, which showed a 0.5% rise in sales volume compared to May. In year-on-year terms, the national sales volume was up 2.9% compared to June 2025, and accumulated sales in the 12 months through June this year were up 1.6% on the preceding 12-month period. Of the eight product categories measured by the Ibge, four saw monthly increases in sales while the other four posted decreases. The greatest rises were registered in supermarkets, food products, drinks, and smoking products (+1.1%) and other items for personal and domestic use (+2.4%). The categories with the greatest monthly drops in sales were books, newspapers, magazines, and stationery (-9.9%) and fabrics, clothing, and footwear (-2.6%).
