*Argentina LNG, a joint venture between Argentina’s state-controlled oil company YPF, Italian energy company Eni, and United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based energy firm XRG, has applied to join Argentina’s large investment incentive scheme (Rigi) for a US$51bn project to convert natural gas from the Vaca Muerta shale formation into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export. The plan covers gas production, dedicated transport infrastructure, processing plants, and two floating liquefaction units (FLNG) with combined estimated capacity of 12m tonnes of LNG per year. YPF estimates the project will generate around US$10bn a year in export revenue over two decades. According to local media reports, YPF said the project will support around 20,000 jobs a year during construction between 2026 and 2030, peaking at 40,000 in its third year, alongside an estimated US$15bn in contracts for local suppliers. YPF president and CEO,
Horacio Marín, wrote on X that the venture was “
building Argentina’s energy future” by turning Vaca Muerta gas into LNG exports.
