The presidential elections on 15 March will be a straight fight
between Rodrigo Avila and Mauricio Funes after two right-wing parties withdrew
their candidates from the race. Avila, who is running for the ruling right-wing
Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena), is confident that the supporters of
the Partido de Conciliación Nacional (PCN) and the Partido Demócrata Cristiano
(PDC) will transfer to him, allowing him to overhaul the lead Funes holds in
opinion polls. Funes, of the left-wing opposition Frente Farabundo Martí para la
Liberación Nacional (FMLN), is trying to win the support of both parties at a
regional level.End of preview - This article contains approximately 1008 words.
