Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that Dewa Capital, a local holding company, will be investing M$10.11bn (US$595.79m) in Hidalgo state in the construction of an economic development hub for wellbeing (Podecobi) ‘Reserva Zapotlán’, while a local cement cooperative, Cruz Azul, will invest M$6.5bn in reactivating a cement plant in the state. In a press conference yesterday, Sheinbaum said that the Podecobi in Hidalgo comprises 130 projects, creating 191,000 jobs with an investment of M$147bn. Meanwhile
Ximena Escobedo Juárez, deputy minister of industry and trade at the federal economy ministry, said that the Podecobi in Zapotlán is one of the biggest in the country, spanning 910 hectares. She said that in the first phase of its development, Dewa Capital had assigned M$1.28bn for urbanisation and M$2.0bn for the construction of the first two warehouses that will house companies – works that will begin in September and generate 5,100 direct and indirect jobs. Germán Ahumada Alduncin, the founder and CEO of Dewa Capital, said that the hub would accommodate companies from a range of sectors such as advanced manufacturing and logistics, “
combining industrial infrastructure with clean energy, services and equipment”. As regards the proposed investment from Cruz Azul, the M$6.5bn investment will create over 14,000 jobs and boost annual cement production by 3m tonnes.
