*Bolivia’s government has launched the second phase of an employment scheme that it says will generate over 73,000 jobs. The initiative, which has a budget of US$92.7m, focuses on urban and rural infrastructure building, particularly the development of the road network for vehicles and pedestrian use. President Rodrigo Paz described it as “the biggest paving project” in Bolivia’s history and said that it would deliver benefits for all regions of the country. In addition to the construction jobs that will be created, the government has highlighted the economic benefits that better road conditions will bring, as well as the boost for micro, small, and medium-sized businesses that provide construction materials and tools.
