In brief: Brazil seeks deeper ties with Turkey in defence sector

*Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has held a phone call with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in which they discussed bilateral interests such as boosting investment in the defence sector. The two leaders agreed to establish a council led by their vice presidents which will draft a roadmap for the deepening of bilateral ties. Lula wrote on social media that during his call with Erdoğan he affirmed Brazil’s commitment to boosting investment and partnerships between Brazilian and Turkish companies in the defence industry. He also said he would send a Brazilian delegation to visit Turkey which will be led by the defence minister, José Múcio Monteiro, and the minister for development, industry, trade, and services, Márcio Elias Rosa. Erdoğan also invited Lula to attend the United Nations climate change conference (COP31) which Turkey will host in November.
