*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has announced that the economy grew by 1.4% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, on seasonally adjusted figures, rebounding from a 0.3% contraction in the first quarter and representing the strongest quarterly growth since the first quarter of 2022. Year-on-year, GDP was up by 1.9% in seasonally adjusted terms. All three main sectors expanded: primary activities, covering agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing, led with growth of 2.4% quarter-on-quarter and 4.8% year-on-year; secondary activities, comprising mining, utilities, construction, and manufacturing, grew 1.6% and 0.9%, respectively; and tertiary activities, or services, grew 1.4% and 2.3%, respectively. In non-seasonally adjusted annual terms, GDP rose 2.1% from the second quarter of 2025. For the first half of 2026 as a whole, GDP was up 1.2% on the same period last year. The 1.4% quarter-on-quarter growth falls just short of Inegi’s 1.5% preliminary estimation
from late July, but above the 1.3% growth predicted by economists polled by newswire Reuters.
