BOLIVIA: Cerimedo’s arrest sends political shockwaves through region
The 18 August arrest in Bolivia of Argentine political operative Fernando Cerimedo continues to have political ramifications in Bolivia and other countries where he was active. Cerimedo is accused of ordering a failed hit on his ex-girlfriend in Santa Cruz, the capital of the eponymous eastern department. As a former political adviser to President Rodrigo Paz, as well as advising the governments or election campaigns of Argentina’s President Javier Milei, Honduras’s Nasry Asfura, and Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), Cerimedo’s case has drawn commentary from across the region.
