Lula seeks to boost green credentials

Since 2007 Brazil has commemorated 5 September as national Amazon Day to celebrate the biodiversity of the world’s largest tropical rainforest. Around this commemoration day, authorities often signal their commitment to environmental protection and announce measures to boost their green credentials. Nearly two decades after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed a decree creating Amazon Day, he is seeking to remind supporters of his government’s environmental policies as he runs for a fourth term in office.
