*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures for its consumer price index (IPC), showing a monthly inflation rate of 1.7% in August, while annual inflation stood at 33.5%. The August figure marks a slowdown in monthly inflation from 2.1% in July, which had marked the first acceleration in the monthly rate since March, and is the lowest monthly rate since June 2025. The monthly rate is in line with the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. The annual rate was also down from 33.8% in July, matching the rate recorded in June. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the greatest monthly price increases were registered in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+2.8%), education (+2.5%), and various goods and services (+2.4%). Clothing and footwear was the only category to register a decrease in prices (-0.6%), while recreation and culture registered no change from the previous month. Economy Minister Luis Caputo hailed the results on social media, saying the monthly inflation rate was the lowest for the month of August since 2017.
