In brief: Mexico’s industrial production rises again

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported a 0.5% rise in industrial activity in July compared with June, while the annual increase was recorded at 2.4%. This follows a 0.2% increase in June and a 0.7% drop in May in monthly terms, while the annual figure was up from 0.8% in June and 0.2% in May. The monthly rise in the index of industrial activity (Imai) was driven by growth in construction (0.9%) and manufacturing (0.7%), despite a decrease in mining (-1.8%) and no change in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas). In yearly terms construction was up 6.7%, mining 1.6%, manufacturing 1.3%, and utilities 0.7%.
