Divisions in Brazil’s top court shake up elections

Brazil’s supreme court (STF) has held a session to discuss whether to launch an investigation into justice Alexandre de Moraes in relation to the sprawling Banco Master corruption case. Rather than producing a collective ruling on De Moraes, the session on 15 September put on full display the internal divisions within the country’s top court, with judges trading insults and accusations. Meanwhile, the Banco Master scandal continues to impact Brazil’s electoral race, as recently unsealed case files have highlighted that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro of the Partido Liberal (PL), the main right-wing candidate in next month’s presidential election, has been under investigation since July due to his connections to the bank’s arrested CEO, Daniel Vorcaro.
