VENEZUELA: Saab’s guilty plea raises prospect of new Maduro revelations

Alex Saab, the Colombian financier and close ally of Venezuela’s former president Nicolás Maduro (2013-2026), has entered into a plea bargain with US prosecutors who accuse him of coordinating a massive corruption network. His testimony could potentially be used against Maduro, whose own trial for alleged drug trafficking and weapons offences will begin in June next year.
