*In its quarterly report on inflation, Peru’s central bank (BCRP) has cut its growth projection for 2026 to 3.2% down from 3.4% in its previous report issued in June, citing the impact of the El Niño climate phenomenon. Meanwhile it has cut its growth forecast for 2027 to 3.0% from 3.2%. According to the BCRP report, as a result of El Niño, it is forecasting a higher contraction in primary sectors in 2026 and less growth in 2027 due to “
weather anomalies”, as well as a slowdown in non-primary manufacturing and construction for the remainder of 2026. The same report notes that annual inflation increased from 3.91% in May to 4.44% in August due mainly to high prices of food such as fresh fish, eggs, and chicken. It expects that inflation will close 2026 at 4.2%, up from a forecast of 3.8% in its June report, while for 2027, its forecast is unchanging at 2.0%, which is within it target range of 1%-3%.
