*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has said her government is “making progress” on trade issues with the US government of President Donald Trump. Speaking from the state of Guanajuato, she said that her government had spoken with Trump and his team “many times”, with the latest call taking place on 16 September. She said that while “we cannot yet provide a solution, any information, or a formal announcement…  we are making progress; the possibility of an agreement between us - Mexico and the US - is moving forward well”. Sheinbaum said that they had reached “some agreements” but “until the final agreement is in place, we cannot make it public”, adding that it was a “very good call”. This comes amid reports that the next round of talks between Mexico and the US over the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), scheduled to take place this week, have been pushed back to 28-29 September. This would be the fourth round of talks regarding the trade deal, which the US opted on 1 July not to renew for another 16 years, triggering a rolling annual review process.
