*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released new figures for the country’s balance of payments which showed a current account deficit of US$5.1bn in August. This is down from US$8.1bn
in July but up from a monthly deficit of US$3.8bn in August last year. The accumulated annual deficit in the 12 months ending August 2026 stood at US$63.0bn (2.47% of GDP), up from the annual figures of US$61.8bn (2.44% of GDP) in July 2026 but down from US$76.9bn (3.53% of GDP) in August 2025. Brazil’s trade balance of goods in August this year showed a surplus of US$6.6bn, up from the surplus of US$5.3bn registered in August last year, while services posted a current account deficit of US$5.3bn, up from the US$4.1bn deficit in the same month last year. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) in Brazil stood at US$7.4bn in August, which is down from US$7.7bn in August 2025.
