ARGENTINA: Falklands War veterans brand Milei policy a sham

Argentina’s President Javier Milei is ratcheting up pressure in his government’s sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) by threatening to take legal action against the UK over oil exploitation in surrounding maritime waters. This international legal push comes after Milei received a major judicial boost at home, where the supreme court (CSJN) upheld a decree he issued repealing a rural land law that restricts the sale of land to foreign corporations and individuals. The litigants behind the defeated appeal were Falklands War veterans, who accuse Milei of being intent on selling off the country to the highest bidder, while purporting to value national sovereignty, through an electorally motivated defence of Argentina’s claim to the Falklands.
