VENEZUELA: Political dissidents acquitted

Two leading critics of Venezuela’s ruling Chavista movement were acquitted on 2 October, in the latest sign that dissent is being repressed less fiercely under President Delcy Rodríguez. Rocío San Miguel, the Spanish-Venezuelan leader of the civil society organisation Control Ciudadana, announced that she had been found not guilty of charges including terrorism and treason. On the same day, Rory Branker, editor of Venezuelan news outlet La Patilla, was also acquitted of terrorism charges.
