*The number of daily transit slots within the Panama Canal’s Neopanamax and Panamax locks has risen to 33, up from 32. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) had announced this rise would take effect on 15 October
at the end of last month based on the “
present and projected level” of Gatún Lake which feeds the locks. In August the ACP had
announced that as of 15 September, daily transits would be reduced to 32, down from 34 as a result of drought due to the impact of the El Niño weather phenomenon. A 22 July ACP report said that as of 30 June FY2026, the Panama Canal averaged 35 daily transits, with a total of 10,726 transits during the current fiscal year (October–June), a 5.2% increase from the 10,191 transits recorded during the same period in FY2025.
