ECUADOR: Reprieve for Gutiérrez as OAS meets

President Lucio Gutiérrez appears to have been granted a reprieve, if not by hosting the Miss Universe contest then by the prospect of the assembly of the Organisation of America States (OAS), whose participants are not in the mood for witnessing firsthand a challenge to their Democratic Charter. This, however, only came after rumours had spread that Gutiérrez was considering `doing a Fujimori': dissolving congress and setting up a military-backed régime.
