COLOMBIA: Tirofijo 'no longer in charge' of Farc

When, about a month ago, the Colombian media picked up reports that the legendary founder and leader of the Farc guerrillas, known as Tirofijo, had died after a long bout with cancer, most analysts did not pay too much attention: the event had been announced too many times. Last week, however, came evidence which obliquely seemed to confirm that Tirofijo had departed the scene. Just what this might imply for the prospects of Colombia's internal war is not at all clear.
