VENEZUELA: Successful referendum would trigger new elections

Two conjoined issues related to the forthcoming recall referendum - the date of the event and its consequences for the presidential succession - were sorted out in a rare unanimous decision by the CNE, the electoral authority. A third one - whether Chávez , if unseated in the referendum, could stand again - has so far elicited only a deliberately vague draft supreme court ruling.
