CUBA: Putting US remittances to good use

Ahead of the much anticipated Sixth Communist Party congress mid month, which will set out new economic and social policy guidelines (ahead of the eventual leadership transition to a post-Revolutionary era), capitalism continues to inch its way tentatively into Cuba. In late March the government led by President Raúl Castro authorized banks to offer credit to farmers and small business owners, another small step forward in Cuba's self-styled “updating" of its economic model.
