Cafta-DR at five

The free trade agreement between the US and Central America and the Dominican Republic (Cafta-DR) turned five years old in March. It is difficult to measure its impact, not least due to the tardy release of the final trade figures from 2010, but it is clear that the region's interdependence on the US as its main market (the US accounts for a third of the region's total external trade) has probably been accentuated, to both positive and negative effect, as a result of the agreement.
