ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: COSTA RICA

On 8 April, Jenny Phillips, deputy minister of finance, became the fifth member of the cabinet to quit her job in the first 11 months of the administration of President Laura Chinchilla. According to Chinchilla, Phillips resigned due to “administrative differences with [Finance] Minister Fernando Herrero"; however, rumours in the local press suggest she quit because she did not fully agree with the government's proposed fiscal reform [RC-11-02].
