Economic overview

Argentina's economy grew by 8%, year-on-year in September and 0.4% month-on-month, according to the official statistics agency, Indec. Over the 12 months to September the economy produced 8.7% more than it did in the 12 months to September 2005. For the first nine months, the year-on-year growth rate was 8.4%. September's growth was slightly slower than independent economists had forecast (in a central bank survey, their consensus was for 8.4% growth in September), but the month was still the fifth month of 8% plus growth in 2006. Indec reported that the economy grew by 2.5% in the third quarter year-on-year and so put the economy on course for annual growth in 2006 of 8.5%.
