CHILE: Frei to join the race for 2006?

Advisers to Joaquí­n Laví­n, the presidential aspirant of the rightwing Alianza por Chile, believe that their man's chances will be given an extra boost by the emergence of a new contender in the opposing camp: former president Eduardo Frei, a Christian Democrat. This, they, reckon, will create problems for the ruling Concertación, already torn between their two opinion-poll favourites, Michelle Bachelet and Soledad Alvear [WR-04-26].
