CHILE: Frei to join the race for 2006?
Advisers to Joaquín Lavín, the presidential aspirant of the rightwing Alianza por Chile, believe that their man's chances will be given an extra boost by the emergence of a new contender in the opposing camp: former president Eduardo Frei, a Christian Democrat. This, they, reckon, will create problems for the ruling Concertación, already torn between their two opinion-poll favourites, Michelle Bachelet and Soledad Alvear [WR-04-26].
