ARGENTINA: Kirchner embarrassed by piquetero clash

Events last week have left many analysts wondering how much real influence President Néstor Kirchner has over the piquetero organisations usually described as kirchneristas. A clash provoked by one such organisation prevented Kirchner from attending the outdoor climax of the 188th Independence Day celebrations in the northwestern city of Tucumán. The President had assured the military high command days earlier that an order to demobilise had been imparted to the 'friendly' piqueteros.
