ECONOMIC OVERVIEW

The government is forecasting that GDP growth in 2008 will be 6.2% and that inflation will be 2.4%. In 2007 growth was 8.3% and inflation was 3.9%. The forecasts come from Luis Carranza, the economy and finance minister. He added that he expected foreign investment to increase by 15% and the fiscal deficit to be close to zero in 2008. Carranza estimated the 2007 fiscal surplus at 2.9% of GDP.
