Endangering trade unions

The Colombian government often relies on statistics to prove the effectiveness of its security policies, but one recent figure is a cause of concern rather than pride. Almost as many trade unionists have been murdered in the first four months of this year as were killed in the whole of 2007. Moreover, NGOs say that the government is encouraging the wave of violence, much to the concern of the US.
