Fuel Smuggling

As world oil prices continue to rise steeply, the incidence of smuggling, especially of petrol and diesel, continues to grow in the Andean countries. Thus the oil producing states that heavily subsidise petrol and other fuels (Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela) are profitable business temptation for smugglers who look to transport cheap fuel across the region's highly permeable borders.
