POLITICS & JUSTICE: Magistrate's murder underlines prevalent dangers
She was shot down in broad daylight in the centre of Saravena, the
third most important municipality in the north-eastern border department of
Arauca. Her executioner wore no mask; he approached her on foot, shot her
several times at close range and left the scene as calmly as he had arrived.
Gloria Constanza Gaona, who had worked as a criminal judge in the Saravena
district court for three years, lay dead. Colombia was shocked.
