HEMISPHERE: All of a sudden, many want the OAS job

Regional unity has been conspicuously absent from the process of selecting the new secretary-general of the OAS, a post left vacant in mid October when former Costa Rican President Miguel Angel Rodrí­guez resigned after being implicated in a corruption scandal back home [WR-04-43]. As Central America's hopes of retaining the post for a new subregional candidate recede, aspirants have started cropping up all over the region.
