COLOMBIA: So just how many paramilitary fighters are there?
Last week witnessed the biggest 'demobilisation' of paramilitary fighters so far, including one of the units led by the top commander of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC), Salvatore Mancuso. This has taken the number of demobilised fighters above 2,000, two-thirds of the total committed by the AUC for this year. The numbers are raising questions about just how many fighters the AUC really has.
