ARGENTINA: Proxy war between Kirchner and Duhalde heats up

As the Argentine government was launching its long-awaited debt-restructuring offer on 14 January (see page 6), President Néstor Kirchner and his predecessor, Eduardo Duhalde, held the latest in a series of periodical meetings that are ostensibly 'shows of unity' between the two main power brokers in the country. As on previous occasions, this happened as the proxy war between the two was reaching new intensity in the province of Buenos Aires.
