Most millennium goals unattainable. Even if the Peruvian economy were to maintain growth rates of 3%-15%, it would be unable to meet most of the critical Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the target year of 2015, participants in a seminar sponsored by the World Food Programme in Lima heard last week. These MDGs include eliminating extreme poverty (currently 23.9% of the population) and halving the poverty rate (currently 55%). It is worth noting that rates of 3%-5% have not been held for any length of time since the 1970s.
