COSTA RICA: Vice-President Fishman abandons ship
President Abel Pacheco may not count it a great loss, but the sudden departure last week of Second Vice-President Luis Fishman is being interpreted as a sign that the ruling Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (Pusc), battered by a string of corruption scandals, is beginning to retrench with a view to contest the next elections, due in February 2006.
