COLOMBIA: Pro-Uribe party initiative is abandoned

As far as anyone knows for certain, President Alvaro Uribe still intends to run for reelection next year, on the assumption that, come June, the constitutional court will rule valid the amendment approved by congress last December which allows reelection. He will be handicapped, however, by the collapse of an attempt to form a new party to field him as candidate.
