Tracking Trends

MEXICO | 'New' jobless rate borders on 4%. Open unemployment, as measured by the new OECD-friendly index, reached 3.9% in the first quarter of the year. The statistical institute, Inegi, has not compared the new figures back to provide a contrast with last year. Its breakdown of employment data shows that 58.3% of the economically active 41m population work in the services, 25.9% in industry and 15.3% in agriculture. It also reveals that 7.5% of the employed (3.1m people) do not have a regular income.
