Tracking Trends

PANAMA | Canal stretching its limits. The Panama Canal recorded new records in April as a result of steadily increasing seaborne trade from Asia and the west coast of South America to the east coast of the US. The number of crossings by Panamax ships (the largest the Canal can presently carry) rose to an average 16.2 per day, up from the previous peak of 16.07 (last November). The daily average of cargo carried through the Canal reached 820,700 tonnes, up from 805,100t (in March).
