US sidesteps extradition of Posada Carriles

Belatedly 'discovering' the presence of suspected terrorist Luis Posada Carriles within its borders on 17 May, the US government chose to ignore a Venezuelan request for his extradition and charged him with illegal entry to the US. This, at worst, makes him liable to expulsion. Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has threatened to sever diplomatic relations with the US if extradition is not granted.
