MEXICO-US: Border violence attracts ambassadorial warning

The murder of the police chief in the border city of Nuevo Laredo last week elicited a new, tough reaction from US ambassador Tony Garza. This time the defensive response of the Mexican government sounded more pained than angry. Before the week was out, however, the reaction turned into acute embarrassment, as federal forces sent to Nuevo Laredo were ambushed by the local police.
